Thanksgiving
Our Thanksgiving this year was unusual and so much fun. Navy bases have an organization called MWR (Morale, Welfare, and Recreation...I think is what it stands for!) and it is for all things fun. You can get discounted tickets to a variety of events and places to visit and they host special events from time to time.
On Thanksgiving morning, we woke at 4:00 and boarded an MWR-sponsored chartered-bus for a 3.5 hour drive to The Big Apple. We were dropped off at Rockefeller Center and crowded our way to a spot on the parade route.
It was such a blast! The weather was fabulous and we all had a really great time.
After the parade, we went to the Central Park Zoo because you can't take J & E anywhere without visiting a zoo. The youngest one was really dragging at this point, but they were serious troopers for being woken up so early (and refusing to sleep on the drive in.)
Sleep deprivation caught up with them both eventually and they snuck in a catnap on the subway...which, especially to a Midwestern, is so crazy. My kids slept on a subway. This is only the second time in my life I've ever even been on a subway.
We headed to the top of the Empire State Building for what was probably the fastest visit in its history.
Then we booked it back uptown and hopped on the bus. 3.5 hours later and we were exhausted and home and happy. What a fun way to spend our Thanksgiving far from home!
