Welcome to 2017

2017.

Is this the year?

We have moved into our new home in Florida and are mostly settled. The kids have done tremendously well with the transition to their new schools and separate rooms for the first time and a wonderful yard to explore.

2016 was incredibly good for us. We travelled well, ate well, and lived well. Our time in Rhode Island was so, so good and refreshing and expensive and enjoyable and so many other words that don't really capture it. We ran and ran and ate and ate and walked everywhere and accomplished some pretty great things. Our move was mostly smooth and we spent some relaxing time in Missouri with family. Our new house is absolutely wonderful and the neighborhood is everything we could ask for. The kids have adjusted. We went to Sea World for Christmas. And Medieval Times. Caleb really wants me to let you know that we went to Medieval Times. He told the kids it would be the best night of their lives. I told him I hope that isn't true.

2017 will bring another home study. We have connected with our original home study agency, AWAA, and will begin working on that in the next few weeks. It will, once again, cost a lot and be invasive. But we are going to continue to be hopeful that this will be the last time we need to do this. Everyone is confident that our adoption will be finalized while we live in Florida. In this house. Confident that this will be our little one's home. But confidence is not necessarily reality, so we continue to hope and pray. We will be able to work with AWAA for as long as we live in Florida, so there won't be the switching around agencies craziness that we had last year.

2017 also brings a deployment. Later this year, Caleb will deploy for a few months. Our adoption agency, AGCI, knows the details and isn't concerned about the timing. Given just the right (wrong) circumstances, we could have a problem with travel and bringing a little one home, but the chances of that are slim. And I am reminding myself to continue to trust in God's timing.

2017 will also bring many, many experiences and challenges that we aren't even aware of yet. For all of us. I continue to be grateful and humbled by the support we have along this journey and the families who are bringing our story into their homes by reading this and asking about our adoption. Thank you for your support in 2016. I am so excited to see what 2017 brings.
