Next Stop

Newport has been phenomenal. So fantastic. Knowing we had only one year to enjoy it turned us into tourist-vacationers who happened to work a little bit on the side. We traveled to Rome. Toronto. Niagara. NYC. All of New England. We ate out. So many restaurants. We went to the beach. We watched fireworks from the roof. We toured mansions and ran through the soles of our shoes on the Cliff Walk. We have had so much fun.

And we still have 2 1/2 months to live it up big in the smallest state.

But then it will be time to move. Come November, as the winter starts to settle in, we will begin our unsettling. Packing. Organizing. Scheduling. Driving. We will be leaving behind our year of an envious schedule, walking all over town, and trips of a lifetime. We will return to a life of longer work days and future deployments. Our pace will slow down in some ways and speed up in others.

Caleb will return to flying this winter. We are looking forward to returning to our Navy roots. Moreso, we are looking forward to returning to our "second home."

Jacksonville.

Caleb will be a Department Head at a squadron in Jacksonville, Florida. This will be our third time to  live in Jacksonville. North Florida has been our home for half of our post-college lives. Caleb proposed in Jacksonville. Elliott was born in Jacksonville. Our license plates and driver's licenses and voter registration and master's degrees are all from The Sunshine State. I love, love, love moving to new places. So much. But when I think of Jacksonville, I feel comfortable and peaceful and relaxed and warm. Warm like warm fuzzies. But also warm like hot. It is so hot. But...the house will have AC which our current house does not and, seriously, who knew Rhode Island summers could be this blazing?

Speaking of houses...

We are under contract on a beautiful home in the exact location we wanted. It has been a whirlwind of a week beginning last Friday when Caleb flew to Jax to look at houses with one of our dear friends  who, lucky for us, happens to be a realtor. An offer was placed. And accepted. And we have a closing date set for later this fall.

In other exciting news, we will be be in Jacksonville for close to three years. Three years, y'all. I think I can handle living somewhere for three years. It's been a while since I've done that. We are thrilled with that length of time because it's pretty super fab in terms of our adoption. We are praying (and crossing fingers and hoping and all the things) that we will bring our precious new ones into this home. Will you join us in that prayer?

Speaking of adoption...

Yes, we will need to update our home study once we move. A bit of a pain, but we knew we would have to, so, in the words of Bachelor Juan Pablo, eees ok. Other than the home study and subsequent immigration update, we just keep waiting. Waiting and praying. For timing and health and healing and that someone is loving our children. And then reminding ourselves that God is. And we are.

We are so grateful for this crazy life of ours. For Newport and Jacksonville and for all of our people and places in between. Our fun here isn't over yet and this move will be such a sweet one.

Y'all come visit anytime. East Coast represent 😘
